EDDHA remains stable up to roughly pH 9–10, making it the practical choice for correcting iron deficiency in calcareous, high-pH soils where EDTA fails. DTPA sits between EDTA and EDDHA, effective to roughly pH 7.5. The tradeoff for both is cost — they're used specifically where EDTA won't hold, not as a general upgrade.
